Humans have approximately 150,000 scalp hairs which do not grow evenly. Each hair has its own growth cycle with three different phases.

Hair Growth Phases

Approximately 80-90% of hairs are in the growing phase (anagenic) which varies from four to eight years.

Normally 10-20% of our hair is in the resting phase (telogenic) which lasts about three to four months.

The transition phase (catagenic) is the last of the hair growth cycle and takes about 2 weeks. This means that hair growth has ceased and that the individual hair gradually falls off the scalp never to grow back again.

Normal hair loss is between 50 and 100 hairs each day and after a few weeks hair will regrow from most of the follicles. A full head of hair can number more than 150,000 hairs.
